Window Glazing
Window glazing is vital for managing solar heat gain and enhancing the thermal insulation of buildings to prevent overheating. In NZEBs with airtight envelopes and high facade insulation levels, the type of glazing selected significantly affects the internal thermal environment.
WHY?
Reduced Solar Heat Gains:
Studies Shows that triple glazing can reduce solar heat gain by approximately 31-32% compared to single glazing. (López Salazar et al., 2024; Tükel et al., 2019).
Superior Thermal Insulation:
Triple glazing provides a much lower U-value, which reduces heat transfer and enhances the overall thermal efficiency of a dwelling (López Salazar et al., 2024; Tükel et al., 2019).
High-performance window glass is crucial for any overheating strategy, particularly when used with adaptive ventilation and shading systems.
